Our Friends of Youth Mentoring group has the sole purpose of bringing like-minds together to grow awareness of youth mentoring and support our work. We believe that intentional mentoring in Aotearoa is essential to help taiohi navigate a complex world.
Some facts about us
If you didn’t know it already,
-
We’re the national hub for the youth mentoring sector in New Zealand, providing advice, support, access to resources and training to hundreds of organisations around the motu. We’ve been doing this now for more than 20 years.
-
We publish a definitive guide to safe & effective youth mentoring in Aotearoa New Zealand, and provide regular, highly-regarded workshops and training materials to people working in the youth sector.
-
We advocate for greater investment in youth mentoring, and in evidence-based policies that uplift youth.
-
We connect organisations, mentors, and people seeking a mentor, and encourage collaboration, research, and ongoing learning.
The hundreds of organisations we connect with each year in turn interact with thousands of rangatahi/young people every day. Help us to support these youth workers, volunteers, teachers, and employers as they support our young people.
There are multiple ways you can get involved:
You can join as an individual
Maybe you were mentored yourself when you were younger. Maybe you know someone who was. Regardless of how you came to it, if you believe in the impact that effective youth mentoring can have then please consider supporting us.
We’ll keep you in the loop with a newsletter twice a year and – if we have public events in your area – invitations to join us to network with other supporters.
There is a voluntary contribution of $50 per year. You can pay more or less than this as your situation allows. All we ask is that you connect with us on social media, share our posts, and spread the word that safe & effective youth mentoring is an essential part of growing the society we all want to live in.
You can support us through your business
With a modest contribution to NZYMN you can make an enormous difference to young people in Aotearoa. Our unique position allows us to connect with frontline organisations around Aotearoa, providing support, training, and fostering greater collaboration.

We’ll provide a badge for your email and website so that you can continue to spread the message about youth mentoring and show to others that you’re contributing to the community.
We’ll also add your logo, a link, and a blurb to our own website, feature you at least once on our social media channels as a supporter, and include you in our twice-yearly newsletter. and – if we have public events in your area – invitations to join us to network with other supporters.
Contact us today to discuss whether membership is right for your organisation.
You can partner with us for change
If you’re part of an organisation that works with youth (ages 12-24) and you haven’t connected with us already then please get in touch. We’ll be happy to explore ways in which we can collaborate with you to provide training and resources, networking, or ongoing advocacy for policy change and funding where that affects the youth sector.
We run regular networking catch-ups over zoom with our members which are a great way to connect with others in the sector, learn more about emerging issues, and discuss opportunities to collaborate further.
There is no fee for youth organisations to join our network.
